Home Start Warrington is a family support charity, supporting vulnerable families with at least one child under five that does not attend a childcare setting. This funding will help sustainability and enable more community focus through family activity days and playgroups for children and babies, who have missed out on vital social interaction over the last 12 months and finally it will provide training for a bank of volunteers. The grant funding will be used to pay for additional staff time to facilitate groups, the cost of training of staff and volunteers in paediatric first aid, the cost associated with additional cleaning and sanitising supplies and time. The project will improve parental mental wellbeing by offering peer support to parents, and improve children's wellbeing and development by providing them with opportunities for much needed socialisation with other children and play. The impact of the pandemic on the mental health of families and their children has been huge and an adult voice when families have been isolated has helped parents feel valued and heard to that they can offload some of their anxieties and worries.

Home Start Warrington provides parents with the best support they need so their child can have the best start in life because childhood cannot wait. Dad Matters is an ambition to change the way dads are thought about by all services involved in the perinatal period and beyond, while the prevelance of maternal and postpartum depression is well established, the impact of paternal prenatal and postpartum depression is less documented but is an emerging and developing area of research. The grant funding will be used to launch the Dad Matters scheme in the Warrington area and will provide an 8 hour post, for a Dad Matters co ordinator as well as Dad Matters volunteer training for our male volunteers. We aim to reduce stigma around male mental health and the barriers this can form to prevent men from accessing support, it will enable fathers to receive support from the beginning of their parenting journey so that they can understand the importance of parent infant bonding and their crucial role as a father.

Home-Start support vulnerable families by offering practical and emotional support via parent volunteer mentors who visit them on a weekly basis. Due to covid-19 weekly face to face visits have been suspended therefore we need more resources to continue to give much-needed support to families using different forms of media such as video calls and online activities. We would also like to provide families with weekly activity packs containing educational activities and accompanying videos. We have also opened up our counselling service to all families referred to us to provide more emotional support at this time. The grant funding will be used to pay for additional hours of counselling support to all our families, resources such as tablets to provide ways of video calling families and extra toys for children. The difference this grant will make to families is that it will provide an layer of support to both children and their parents to help them to feel more able to cope in the ever-changing current environment. By using talking therapies with both parents and children they will be given an outlet to voice their concerns and worries. The resources for the children will also provide much needed distraction.

Home-Start Warrington is a family support charity which trains volunteers who then support disadvantaged families who have at least one child under 5 and are given 3 hours of support a week. We aim to train a minimum of 12 volunteers a year to help maintain our active volunteer bank at 40 volunteers. All volunteers have to undergo 40 hours of training before they are linked with a family and we are applying for funds to help support our volunteer preparation training course. Following their training volunteers are placed with a family who are supported 3 hours per week within the family home. Volunteers support the family until the youngest child enters full time education or the reason for their referral has been achieved.
