Girls Support Girls works in line with the Tampon Tax objectives of Improving Health and Well-being and Building Skills and Confidence. Well begin GSG sessions with a variety of drama games where everybody has an equal opportunity to participate, these encourage participants to relax and work as a group. Well then use thought-provoking discussions to gauge their existing knowledge ofsexual health and relationships. Well work through a number oftheatre based activities and techniques to help the participants identify the symptoms of STIs, methods of contraception and the indicators of unhealthy relationships. GSG will also provide the young women with a number of vital life skills; -Communication skills. -Team-work, social interaction and acceptance. -Key social skills (from basic eye contact and posture to presentation). Our tangible project outcomes will be; -5 schools will engage with the Girls Support Girls programme, each receiving 4.5 hours of creative workshops. -100 of the most at risk young women aged 13-16 (school years 9, 10 and 11) will engage in GSG. -80% of participants will indicate they have: -Greater understanding of the risks of unsafe sex. -Increased confidence. -Improved their knowledge of and ability to, recognise negative relationships. -Learnt new ways to support other girls. -Have greater self-belief and worth. Chain Reaction was initially started as a peer education group by 7 young women from East London, who were using theatre as a means to educate others. Sarah Smit (one of the Founders and our Artistic Director) has continued to lead the organisation ever since. Our core office based team consists of an all-female workforce and we are proud to champion women in all aspects of our work. The GSG delivery team will consist of trained and experienced female only facilitators to ensure the programme really is girls supporting girls.
