This funding will launch an innovative place-based approach called 'Model City Delhi' to create impact for young women and girls and strengthen organisations using sport in Delhi. The project will create a community of like-minded sport and local organisations who will coalesce around a shared desire to create a safer and more prosperous community for young women and girls. Organisations will form a Coalition, supported by a local Project Worker and backbone support provided by Laureus who will design and develop an agreed strategy around issues facing women and girls. Organisations will also benefit from grant funding and capacity building support.

Girls in Kenya experience high levels of gender-based violence, and lack opportunities, choices and assets. Through this project they will have the opportunity to participate in boxing, learn about their rights and develop skills in money management, entrepreneurship and leadership. The project will also educate boys, parents and teachers about girl's rights. As a result, girls will have increased confidence and skills to speak out and influence change, the wider community will be less tolerant of violence and more supportive of girls, and partner organisations will be better able to advocate, monitor and learn from their work. This grant would enable Boxgirls to offer the girls leadership award to more young women, and provide funds for capacity building to enable them to develop a self-sustaining model for the programme.

The Slum Soccer Schools Connect project will create learning opportunities to improve educational attainment, life skills and leadership opportunities for children living in the slums of Chennai, India. Using an innovative football-based curriculum, Slum Soccer will work in partnership with 15 Government Schools to engage 1500 children (750 girls and 750 boys) aged 10-14 in positive activities that will equip them to be leaders of their communities and role models for their peers both on and off the pitch, helping to break the cycle of poverty in which they live. A grant will pay for delivery staff, training for coaches, and development of their youth leadership programme.

Young people in Mathare, Nairobi, one of the biggest slums in Africa, face high levels of crime and violence, few formal education opportunities and high unemployment. They live in over-crowded conditions, and a lack of water and basic sanitation lead to high rates of communicable diseases. This grant will provide young people with opportunities to play football, develop skills to tackle problems that arise in their daily lives, gain work experience, career guidance and access to education. As a result, they will be better prepared for formal employment, able to act as leaders within their community, and be able to make more informed choices about their lives.

Young people in South African townships are exposed to high levels of violence, neglect, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and HIV. Engaging young people through sport provides a route to tackle some of these issues. This project will provide vulnerable young people from Diepsloot township with opportunities to participate in regular mountain biking training and competitions, access extra Maths and English tuition to support their schooling and to gain work experience. Girls and young women will also have the opportunity to join a leadership programme. As a result, young people will have increased self-esteem and confidence, and enhanced education and employment opportunities.

Young people (YP) in South African townships are exposed to high levels of violence, neglect, HIV and poverty. An estimated 20% of YP have post traumatic stress disorder and they face increased risk of school drop-out, unemployment and exclusion from society.Through this project YP will participate in regular 'surf therapy' sessions, their primary care-givers (parents or guardians) and teachers will receive support to identify symptoms of trauma and engage with YP, and older youth will undergo training to become qualified Youth Care Workers.As a result, YP will demonstrate improved emotional health, school attendance and vocational opportunities, and reduced anti-social behaviour.
