The project will support a range of people including those suffering from substance misuse, ex-offenders, the homeless and those that have experienced adverse childhood experiences to access the new Universal Credit, addressing barriers such as a lack of basic understanding, basic literacy and numeracy skills, communication and IT skills. Service users will be provided with advice, support and information in a friendly, non-judgemental and confidential manner, increasing their confidence and skills, leading to reduced feelings of isolation, poverty and homelessness and an improvement in their health and psychological wellbeing.

The grant, over three years, will benefit 450 substance misusers in Llanelli and the surrounding area through the delivery of a supported volunteering, training and work experience programme; Drugs, Recovery, Activities and Work skills (DRAW). The project will also provide confidence building activities, opportunities to develop skills and the establishment of a social enterprise. Four existing and one new full-time post will be funded along with associated running costs and a few small capital items.

The organisation is planning to demolish an existing warehouse, which they own, and replace it with a purpose built facility that will allow the organisation to deliver more support services to substance misusers and their families. Activities will include obtaining planning permission, completing surveys, report and site investigations, Architects fees and contingency costs.
