The funding will support Edwards Trust to deliver counselling support to children and families who are facing loss and surviving bereavement in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area through one to one and group support sessions. Sessions will seek to overcome issues such as anxiety depression low self-esteem fear of the future helping people to express their grief building trust and rapport and creating a safe non-judgemental environment for them. Sessions will be delivered at the group’s premises in Edgbaston Birmingham Birmingham Botanical Gardens and across several premises across the wider West Midlands area and virtually as required.

Accessible, holistic support and early intervention will be funded for people experiencing bereavement. This project will help people manage their grief, reduce anxiety, develop coping strategies and move forward more positively following the death of loved ones. A new counsellor will help to reduce waiting list times and provide one-to-one specialist support for bereaved children and young people of school age. The group will also expand its remit to support people aged 18 to 24 who have lost a parent.

This project, based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, will provide support to anyone in the West Midlands who is affected by the death of a child. It will provide one to one and couples counselling, bereavement support groups, respite bereavement care days and weekend retreats for bereaved parents. Complementary therapies are also part of the holistic bereavement care service.
