This will always be an important element of our support however we understand ....more The unique Home-Start approach is to offer encouragement and support to enable families to set their own goals/outcomes. This will always be an important element of our support however we understand there are some specific outcomes relating to this particular project which will be a focus. We expect; -fewer women to continue in controlling and abusive relationships and as a result fewer children will be subjected to this adverse childhood experience -Women will report to experiencing reduced conflict within their relationships -Women will have increased self esteem and confidence -Women will have increased confidence in their parenting The above outcomes will enable women to take more control over their own lives and have the ability to consider the needs and future needs of their children. We know from research that health and well being outcomes are very poor for women who are in controlling and abusive relationships. Even when those relationships end, women will have such low self esteem and confidence that they will be unable to acknowledge their own needs. When parents needs are unmet, their parenting is impaired thus causing significant disadvantage to children who are left with the legacy of this trauma. When women have improved self esteem and confidence, they will be in a position to address the difficulties their abuse has caused within their parent : child relationships. The support options we have within Home-Start mean that these issues can be addressed within the trusting relationship of the organisation. It provides more sustainable and holistic outcomes than when families are passed on to a variety of organisations which becomes difficult to manage when life is already chaotic or challenging.
