This one-year project delivered four local weekly groups for people living on the Gospel Oak Estate in Birmingham - a men’s cookery group, a women’s craft group, a group for newly-arrived older people, and a parents’ group (with childcare) for newly arrived asylum seekers. Participants also led an open day, attended by others from the local community, raising awareness of the work and achievements of these groups. The idea was been developed in response to requests from local people for activities to meet their specific needs, and each group decided on their focus and the activities they participated in. Through meeting others with similar interests and circumstances, the project helped build participants’ confidence and provided opportunities to build further local connections.

This project will support young carers by providing them with emotional support, practical advice, and introductions to other young people in similar situations. This has been developed by carers, for carers. Bespoke sessions will be provided to those who are being cared for, helping them to create a network amongst themselves, to share experiences and explore ways of freeing young people from their caring responsibilities.
