Redbridge has 2000 class-A drug users and 13,000 dependent drinkers. As well as affecting their physical health, drug and alcohol dependent people can take serious risks - criminal activities, suicide attempts and self-harm. Their addiction puts their families at risk with the threat of children being taken into care, or homelessness due to debt. One North East London offers the only abstinence-based treatment in the borough. This grant would pay for two part-time counsellors to provide a treatment programme for adults. It will offer one-to-one and group therapy, relapse prevention and tools for maintaining abstinence which will help them stop using and regain control of their lives.
