This two-year project provides the first physical activity club in Bristol for adult survivors of child abuse who use drugs, alcohol and/or self-harm as a consequence of that trauma. Fortnightly sessions include canoeing, sailing, kayaking and rowing in warmer months and gym-based activities in the winter. Older participants train as peer mentors to share experiences and learning with the younger adults, to support project activities, and to lead spin-off activities such as yoga and nature walks. The project supports participants to form a peer support network, build friendships and improve self-confidence and self-esteem. They shape the project via monthly general meetings and annual steering group meetings.
