....more
The Family Champions volunteer training will build the womens skills and confidence in peer support and assessing impact through consulting with former beneficiaries to ask what difference we made, how involved they felt and what could be improved. The project will build the womens social networks, connecting them to each other, as a key part of the Southside team and the local community. This project will also be a step towards other volunteering and work opportunities, building aspirations, workplace skills and experience to engage in other employment, volunteering and participation opportunities and helping them to fulfil their potential. Southside has secured funding from St Johns Foundation for 2019/20 to support staff and volunteers to study for and secure youth and family work qualifications. The project will bring women together to use their lived experience to support others in need, contribute to service design, development and evaluation. Volunteering will build strong relationships between women in and across the communities throughout B&NES, connecting Family Champions with each other, service providers, funders, commissioners and policy makers. The volunteers contribution will improve the places and spaces that matter to the local communities in which they live. It will also build resilience amongst women involved, engage them in the wider community, identify gaps and provide valuable information to funders, commissioners and policy makers. The women will see the positive benefits of using their unique lived experience and sharing their story, thereby supporting their ongoing development of confidence and resilience. This year, we have seen the powerful impact of Family Champions sharing their story to support and inspire others. A group of Family Champions are launching a new Stay and Play Group in Foxhill, supported by Southside, to meet an identified gap and use the skills and capacity built through their training and experience this year.
