The funding will be used to provide a range of services to support the community through the cost-of-living crisis. The centre will provide warm hubs with refreshments during the colder months; craft groups with food for older residents each week; meal-time clubs for children and young people; run each week after school and during school holidays. These will provide a range of activities and a meal at every session. It will also distribute various packs that contain food; personal hygiene products; household cleaning products and children's activity packs. The project aims to bring people together in a safe space that will build relationships and also help vulnerable families tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

We would like to provide activity sessions with free food for children and young people.

The funding will be used to host a performing/visual arts event and street party delivered collaboratively by five community groups to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The project aims to bring together a large number of local people and provide them with activities develop new skills and give them opportunities to meet new people to reduce social isolation following the Covid-19 pandemic.

We would like to run lunchtime art clubs during the school holidays. These would provide food and bring young people together in a creative environment where they can make new friends.

Girls at GAZ will work with all three of the above objectives in some way as we see a great need for all of them to be addressed in our community, however, our primary focus will be to improve the young women that attend the sessions physical and mental health and well-being. We believe by making this our primary focus it will link in with the other targets, as improving the young womens mental and physical health will, in turn, build confidence and being part of the group will build social networks for all involved, as well as, giving them a safe and secure place they feel happy in - somewhere they can ask questions and know they will be listened to. This is something we believe is missing in our community. We expect an average of 20-25 young women to attend the sessions on a regular basis. Through our sessions we expect the young women to gain new skills, knowledge and long-term coping strategies for dealing with mental health issues that they can use throughout their lives. We expect that young women attending will gain insightful knowledge into their own health and how to live in a happy, hygienic, healthy way - this will be done through our cooking, fitness and nurse-led health sessions. We expect that by gaining the skills and knowledge they do they will be able to share this within their families and friends helping to improve our communities health and wellbeing.

This two-year project provided afterschool and holiday club and activities for young people in Grimethorpe, Barnsley. The participants met weekly to build social connections in the community. It helped the young people develop skills to run, and have ownership of the club, and a peer-elected youth committee consults peers and help with delivery of sessions.
