BERKSHIRE, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE AND OXFORDSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

BBOWT is the only voluntary organisation concerned with all aspects of nature conservation in Berks, Bucks & Oxon. We care for 85 nature reserves that are safe havens for rare & endangered species & habitats. We encourage all sectors of the community to learn about & care for our natural heritage. We work with other landowners & seek to influence decisions to safeguard important wildlife habitats.
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • This charity has a robust balance sheet
  • There has been reasonable growth in spending over the last 3 years relative to the previous period
  • A significant proportion of recent income was derived from major grant makers including the Government
  • The Board appears to be well diversified in terms of age and gender and dynamic in terms of composition

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • There are 14 trustees whereas the Charities Commission recommends a maximum of 12

Financial issues to consider:

  • This charity has substantial assets and unrestricted reserves of £16,152,000 available, equivalent to 25 months of spending and so may not be able to utilise additional funding
  • On several occasions in recent years income has been less than spending
  • Fundraising costs are extremely high relative to funds raised
