We believe that a dedicated volunteer programme has the potential to significantly impact the lives of the most vulnerable women in Bournemouth. Although, primarily this project intends to build skills and confidence for women in Bournemouth, clients and volunteers alike, it also has the potential to meet each of the Tampon Tax Community Fund objectives. Volunteers will build skills and confidence; for example by supporting women to participate in our creative lifestyle sessions, designed to provide opportunities for women to try a new creative hobby or learn a new skill. Volunteers will also work with women on a 1:1 basis, empowering them to explore an interest or develop lifeskills such as shopping, cooking on a budget and employability skills. Volunteers with certain experience and expertise could be encouraged to facilitate workshops within our creative lifestyle sessions on topics such as healthy relationships, budgeting, writing a CV, communication skills etc. Volunteers themselves will also be supported to build skills and confidence through their experiences in our volunteer programme. In addition, current clients who are interested and assessed as suitable will be supported and empowered to become volunteers themselves, benefitting from experience gained and training opportunities available. This could ultimately lead to improved employability skills and job prospects. Female volunteers will support women to improve health and well-being holistically through assisting women to participate in physical activities such as swimming and gardening as well as looking at ways to better look after mental health. At the same time, volunteers will potentially reduce the risk of social isolation with the women they work with by supporting women to build social networks - this could be by accompanying women to Safe and Sound Dorset Creative Lifestyle Sessions or other relevant groups in the community where they can connect with other women and share similar experiences.
