The Youth Take Action group will be getting young people involved in social action projects in the Bishops Stortford area. We will engage with the young people before the projects begin in a comfortable environment. Allowing them to set tasks for the individual projects and encouraging them to help allocate the resources in the projects. We will then plan in group rewards after each project. Where the teams of young people can enjoy and reflect on the projects. This project will consist of three mini projects taking place during the school holidays during the summer and over the May and October 2021 half terms assuming permissable in light of restrictions. Project 1 Garden Project The garden project is a project where the young people with two youth workers will engage with the council. To help to clean, maintain and do some gardening a recreational area in Bishop Stortford. It will be over two days in the half term with around ten young people for around eight hours, four hours each day. We will plan in time for discussion and planning with the young people before undertaking the work. We will provide the equipment needed such as gloves gardening and cleaning equipment. Young people will be involved in planning a group reward such as group escape room after the project is complete. Project 2 School Project The School project is where we will engage with a local school and offer to clean, maintain and help with any special projects i.e painting with young people and two youth workers. We are planning it over two days with around ten hours engagement five hours each day in the half term. We will plan in time for discussion and planning with the young people before undertaking the work. We will be inviting around ten young people to help in this project. We will also provide the equipment needed. Young people will be involved in planning group reward at the end of the project. Project 3 Park Project The project in the park will consist of young people in a local park over half term litter picking and giving out hot drinks and biscuits to members of the public. This will be over two days in the half term for around eight hours four hours on each day with around ten young people. We will also plan in time for discussion and planning with the young people before undertaking the work. We will provide the pickers gloves and bin bags for the litter picking task. For the beverages and snacks we want to offer to the general public, we plan and organise the preparation of the hot drinks and biscuits in the youth cafe and will make sure we adhere to food and hygiene regulations. Young people wll be involved in planning a group reward such as a restaurant voucher which the young people can use together. In addition the group have asked for a staff cost contribution to the development of their young person accreditation scheme including specific “modules” so that YP experience all aspects of volunteering including fundraising, campaigning and helping others and will provide progression and development opportunities. Young people can work towards bronze, silver and gold awards. They plan to benefit 20 young people per year with this.

Thirst Cafe have committed adult volunteers who develop strong relationships with the young people who attend. It's a space for them to drop in immediately after school and a place over the weekend, where they can engage with positive role models, talk through issues and chat over games. Over a session, we can have 70 young people drop in. We are open 4 sessions and wish to open more, increasing to an evening slot so that young people will have a safe place to be in the evening, and create specific events to tackle the needs highlighted above. We want to give young people a) the space to discover their unique ideas, creativity and voice, b) a sense of belonging through team work and shared identity c) help them to see the impact of powerful and healthy decision making in growing confidence. SoundBox is an electronic questionnaire, taken onto the streets by 11-14yr olds, to find out how youth culture impacts them. This will lead to reflection, and a development of specific events to address these needs. Young Ambassador Role is for 15-18yr olds, as a link to their school, to develop belonging, confidence through public speaking, mentoring and support.
