This two-year project was the result of a successful pilot. MindOut LGBTQ Mental Health Service ran a weekly peer-support group and a social group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people from Brighton and Hove who were struggling with their mental health at work. The intention of the scheme was to support those attending to retain their employment, to improve their wellbeing and to nurture supportive relationships between participants to break down any isolation they might experience.

This group will further develop their project which will target LGBTQ people aged 50 plus. The aim of is to reduce and improve mental wellbeing through providing information and guidance, volunteer opportunities, online support, and intergenerational activities with LGBTQ people under the age of 30. This will benefit both age groups and encourage the community to come together. Advocacy, and information will be delivered in community settings and in residential and day services to provide crisis support.

This is an expansion of an existing project based in Brighton, which aims to improve the wellbeing of around 3,000 LGBT people experiencing mental health issues, their family, carers and friends in the East and West Sussex areas. Beneficiaries experience a high incidence of mental health issues, suicide distress and self-harm, and isolation. To promote wellbeing, there will be advice, advocacy; peer support groups and partnerships to develop an outreach service throughout Sussex.
