The Dash Charity provides a range of specialist support options for families experiencing domestic abuse in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and surrounding areas. With domestic abuse being a leading cause of homelessness, with victims often fleeing their homes in crisis, its essential that there is a co-ordinated and effective response to ensure the short term safety and long term wellbeing of these vulnerable families. We are seeking support for a specialist Housing Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to work proactively within our local community, co-locating with key local agencies including Housing Options and Drug and Alcohol Support to pilot a new and innovative approach to achieving positive and sustainable housing outcomes for families recovering from domestic abuse.

Outcomes can be immediate, for example - victims needing urgent safe housing will be supported into refuge and can subsequently ensure they are able to access protective civil measures, have safer child contact in place and have financial independence. For clients remaining within the local community, we will support clients through the criminal justice system ensuring there is accountability for the perpetrator, through child protection procedures to help ensure children are protected and can stay with their mother and refer/signpost to a myriad of other support services to help further their health and wellbeing. Often victims of domestic abuse need to remain within their own home or local area so they can retain their support network Our Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) will help them do that and will support them in a whole host of ways to help reduce the risk to them and their children and to empower them to make decision and choices and regain control over their lives. We will be able to measure clear outcomes such as: 100% of women will be risk assessed and safety planned within 24hrs of their initial referral 98% of women will see a fall in their level of risk (of further serious violence) following support 95% of women will feel safer with improved confidence at the point of case closure 95% of women will feel they can identify warning signs of future abusive relationships 95% of women will be supported towards volunteer/work opportunities 95% of women will feel less isolated at case closure and have increased support networks All of these outcomes will ensure that women are far less likely to remain at risk of harm or to experience abuse in future relationships - our intervention helps break the cycle of abuse.

At least one in twenty children experience constant or frequent domestic abuse at home (NSPCC). The impact and implications of living with domestic abuse as a child are far reaching - these children are three times more likely to end up in the criminal justice system, have long term trauma and display a wide range of negative behavioural traits. Dash will work with these children and young people to improve their safety, to support them to understand and move on from their experiences and importantly educate them as to what a healthy relationship looks like to prevent them experiencing or perpetrating domestic abuse in the future.
