Areas of work are the principal facade of the Yorkshire Museum and adjacent areas of the roof. The architect and contractor will use a MEWP to undertake a high-level inspection of the masonry and other elements of the fabric. This survey will inform the development of a full scope of repair to the principal facade, to be developed in detail by the architect under the present grant and then delivered as a subsequent repair project to this grant phase within the required timescales. The contractor will use the temporary access equipment to make holding repairs to the building fabric based on a scope to be agreed with the architect following the survey. This will prevent further deterioration of the fabric while the details of the development project are prepared

The wider aim of the scheme is: We are the national development agency for creativity and culture. By 2030 we want England to be a country in which the creativity of each of us is valued and given the chance to flourish and where everyone of us has access to a remarkable range of high quality cultural experiences. Between 2018 and 2022, we will invest £1.45 billion of public money from government and an estimated £860 million from the National Lottery to help deliver this vision.

Recent excavations at the Star Carr early Mesolithic settlement site, North Yorkshire (Scheduled Ancient Monument, List Number 1401425) by the POSTGLACIAL team recovered a large number of small finds, with important implications for the interpretation of the period. Many are organic and unusually well preserved, coming from waterlogged conditions. This includes a substantial quantity of waterlogged animal bone and antler (some 30 antler head-dresses have been recovered from Star Carr, the largest collection in Europe). The entire archive will be deposited with the York Museums Trust where it will become a part of the Designated, nationally-significant archaeology collection.
