The project will support women and girls at the critical moment following the trauma of sexual abuse to rebuild their lives through building skills and confidence, developing self-esteem, adopting healthy coping strategies and independence, leading to improved physical, emotional and psychological well-being. The workshops are facilitated by experienced counsellors utilising trauma based counselling tools including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis and is delivered in a person centred way. Mindfulness and meditative breathing are also practised alongside the development of practical and emotional coping strategies with an overall look at health and wellbeing. RoSA believe in empowerment, using a strengths-based approach to encourage individuals to develop their own sustainable solutions. Through the workshops women and girls will build skills and confidence and have opportunities to learn healthy, positive coping strategies and be able to pass them on to others; feel empowered to make confident decisions to improve their lifestyles, including building and restoring relationships, addressing isolation, gaining greater control of their lives and increasing the effectiveness of their social functioning. The support RoSA provides leads to reduction in GP visits, less dependency upon medication, fewer hospital visits due to reduction in self-harming, decrease in risky behaviour and reduction in time-off work or education due to sickness. For our volunteers the training, supervision and opportunity to work with RoSA will improve their skills and enhance their employment opportunities. For our organisation, the project will improve the quality of our service delivery and will support the expansion of our service provision as it enable us to add Life skills Workshop as a service offering.
